Project: Leaks Repair – Repsol Petróleo Refinery Vizcaya, Tarragona and Puertollano

Detail of Works done: Tamoin has been working for many years at refineries in Leak Repair, for which it has strategically located workshops in Vizcaya, Tarragona and Puertollano.

When a leak is detected at Repsol Petróleo refineries, they contact Tamoin in order to take measures and assess the options of eliminating the leak. Most common options to stop the leak include the manufacturing of enclosures or clamps to wrap the pipes, and by injecting a sealing product.

These repairs, though provisional, enable the plant to avoid production losses, whether due to the loss of the product itself or due to having to stop the equipment, if the leak had continued.

Project: Hot Taps of 1 ¼”

Detail of Works done: Carrying out 2 Hot Taps of 1¼” for Heinen & Hopman Ibérica

The work was unique as it took place on a vessel, moored at Tarragona port, as the customer needed to modify the vessel’s ventilation system. Tamoin was in charge of supplying and welding the fittings to be installed, as well as performing the Hot Taps, using our own machinery.

On a previous visit, Tamoin collected information needed to choose the technique suitable to the specific work conditions, to meet the Customer’s needs and to make sure there was enough space to perform the works.

Project: Plant Turnaround 2017 Majadas

Detail of Works done: Detail of Works done: The Applied Engineering department was present at the shutdown works of the Majadas Solar Thermal power plant, of Acciona. During November, three Line Stops of 14″ were done. The cut was done on the stopped lines, as well as the welding of the valves to be replaced. The works on the stopped line were also performed by Tamoin, using cutting and bezel lathes.

In addition, Tamoin conducted the works of assembling new pipe lines, as part of the expansion of the safety valve system of the tanks.

Tamoin had already done works in the Majadas shutdown the year before, including the works of sectioning the solar field, as well as four double Line Stops in the Power Island, also to install valves.

Project: Line Stop of 6” at Ascó

Detail of Works done: Detail of Works done: Last year Tamoin carried out, in two different incorporations, four sealings in water lines at the Ascó Nuclear Power Plant. The objective was to seal 6″ water lines, from the cooling system, in order to modify these lines, as they hindered other operations the Customer had programmed.

Two of the Line Stops were carried out in May, and the other two were done at the end of October.

Project: Freeze Stop 1” Petronor

Detail of Works done: In August, Tamoin was at the Petronor Refinery carrying out two Freeze Stops on 1″ lines to cut a section of them. Tamoin has carried out other four Freeze Stops at Petronor in the last months, where the Applied Engineering department has also offered leak repair services in operation and on-site machining.

Project: Line Stops 10” Termosol I and II

Detail of Works done: At the beginning of 2017, Tamoin carried out two 10″ Line Stops in each one of the Nextera Energía de Extremadura plants, usually called Termosol I and II.

The objective of the operation was to seal a line to change valves. To do so, a Tee-shape fitting is welded on the area to be sealed, through which a Hot Tap is done to access the line and in this way, to try and insert a sealing product that will stop the line flow. Once sealed and drained the changes required can be performed.

In the Termosol I and II plants the Tamoin Applied Engineering department also carried out the Turbine Warming System on the turbines.

Project: Majadas Sectioning

Detail of Works done: At the end of 2016 and beginning of 2017, Tamoin carried out the sectioning of the solar fields of the Majadas solar thermal plant, during its annual shutdown.

The objective was to install new butterfly valves in the HTF collectors, of the solar field, that could be used to section the solar field and, should the need arise, be able to isolate the different sectors. Tamoin had already carried out these same sectioning works at the solar field of Palma del Rio I plant, also belonging to Acciona.

At the same time, four 14″ double Line Stops were done in the Power Island. The objective of the operation was to seal a line to install valves.

Project: Machining of flanges in Almaraz

Detail of Works done: The Tamoin Applied Engineering department carried out, at the end of 2017, the machining of the flanges at the Almaraz Nuclear Power Plant.

The scope included the machining of forty 2” #1500 flanges these works taking place at the same Power Plant. For this, Tamoin has specialists and an assortment of machines to perform the on-site machining of the equipment. For specifically this case, two LR,400, portable lathes were used. The objective of the works was to clean the RF side of the flanges.

Tamoin regularly works at Almaraz. Applied Engineering, not only provides these machining works, but also leak repair service with line in service.

Project: Machining of flanges in BP Castellón

Detail of Works done: During the last shutdown at the BP refinery in Castellón, carried out the second half of 2017, the Applied Engineering department provided several specialised officers in machining to do these works.

In Castellón, and with a variety of machines, on-site machining works were performed of the flanges in different sizes and types, as well as caps or manholes. In this way, the problems related to dirt, slight corrosion or grooves and marks that may appear on the surfaces to be machined, are repaired.

Project: Petronor machining

Detail of Works done: During the last shutdown at the Petronor refinery, carried out at the beginning of 2017, the Applied Engineering department provided several specialised officers in machining to do these works.

At Petronor, and with a variety of machines, on-site machining works were performed of the flanges in different sizes and types. In this way, the problems related to dirt, slight corrosion or grooves and marks that may appear on the surfaces to be machined, are repaired. Tamoin also has the equipment, manpower and tools needed to do other machining works, such as of shafts or of exchangers.

In addition, the Applied Engineering department has carried out at the Petronor refinery other kind of services, such as Leak Repairs, performing Hot Taps or Freeze Stops.

Project: Coating Smurfit Kappa Hopper

Detail of Works done: Last November Tamoin carried out the coating of a hopper to separate shavings, for the paper mill Smurfit Kappa, located in Durango.

The objective of the works was to provide wear resistance to the hopper area in contact with the shavings, which has high erosion capacity. To do so, a coating was applied formed by a first layer of fibre-glass, a second layer of kevlar biaxial fabric and a ceramic-filled epoxy coating.

In this way, the excellent wear resistance of the Kevlar combined with the chemical and ultraviolet resistance of the epoxy coating lengthens the equipment’s life. In addition to this work of applying Composites, Tamoin usually carries out leak repairs services for Smurfit Kappa.

Project: Repsol Petróleo 1 ½” line reinforcements

Detail of Works done: Tamoin carried out last October a series of structural reinforcements on the 1½” line at the Repsol Petróleo refinery of Tarragona. The piping showed loss of external thickness, due to corrosion, in up to 7 different sections.

The solution proposed and applied by Tamoin, was to apply structural reinforcements by composites in each one of the affected sections, so as to recover the lost thickness. This reinforcement consists in an epoxy matrix of high chemical and mechanical properties, and reinforced with fibre fabric (glass and/or carbon).

The Applied Engineering department frequently carries out works at the Repsol Petróleo refinery of Tarragona, being the main service the Leak Repair with line in service, but also applying Composites, repair and revision of valves and on-site machining.

Project: Line Reinforcement fibre-cement

Detail of Works done: Urgently, Tamoin was requested to provide a Composite reinforcement to a fibre-cement 30″ line, which was actively leaking. Tamoin was able to offer an assessment and execute the works in record time.

The Tamoin solution used composites such as fibreglass resin impregnated in epoxy cured with heat, and with a ceramic-filled epoxy coating.

Once the work done, the initial leak reduced substantially and the piping recovered its lost integrity.

Project: Valve revision in REMESA

Detail of Works done: Tamoin was again present in the shutdown at the end of 2017, of the waste to energy plant of Residuos de Mellila S.A., in which the Applied Engineering department was in charge of revising the valves, traps, ejectors and heat exchangers.

The revised equipment included valves of different types and diameters. The revisions, largely, consisted in disassembling the valve to be cleaned and the inspection of the components for possible defects. Depending on the nature of the reinforcement, it is repaired by honing, lapping or recharging.

Tamoin had already carried out these works, during the shutdown at the end of 2016; therefore they already had the experience acquired on the same plant equipment.

Project: Valve Revision – Los Barrios

Detail of Works done: The Tamoin Applied Engineering department was present in the last shutdown of the Los Barrios Thermal Power Plant, in Cadiz, performed at the end of 2017 to conduct the valve revision works.

The revised equipment included valves of different types (Motorised, Gate, Globe, Safety…) and of different diameters (most of them between 4″ and 16″). The revisions, largely, consist in disassembling the valve to be cleaned and the inspection of the components for possible defects. Depending on the nature of the reinforcement, it is repaired by honing, lapping or recharging.

Tamoin had already carried out these works, not only in Los Barrios but also in other plants, of Viesgo Generación, such as the Thermal Power Plant of Puente Nuevo.

Project: Valve Revision –  Puente Nuevo

Detail of Works done: The Tamoin Applied Engineering department was present in the last shutdown of the Puente Nuevo, Espiel, performed in mid 2017, to conduct the valve revision works.

The revised equipment included valves of different types (Motorised, Gate, Globe, Safety,…) and of different diameters (most of them between 4″ and 16″). The revisions, largely, consist in disassembling the valve to be cleaned and the inspection of the components for possible defects. Depending on the nature of the reinforcement, it is repaired by honing, lapping or recharging.

Tamoin had already carried out these works, in other plants of Viesgo Generación, such as the Thermal Power Plant of Los Barrios.

Project: Termosol I and II

Detail of Works done: In the Termosol I and II plants the Tamoin Applied Engineering department also carried out the Turbine Warming System in the turbines.

Project: Reduction repair

Detail of Works done: Tamoin was urgently summoned during a weekend to repair the reduction of a HTF line at a solar thermal plant. Swiftly the Applied Engineering department organised the staff, tools and equipment required to carry out the repair.

The reduction, of size 28″x24″, was repaired by cutting and bevelling the specific section, using an orbital lathe, to immediately weld a new one in its place. The application of the orbital lathe has the characteristic that it does not generate sparks during the cutting, being ideal for pipes bearing flammable fluid, such as the HTF on the solar thermal plants.

Tamoin have previously performed works in solar thermal plants, both of Hot Tapping and welding of valves.

Project: Sectioning Palma del Rio II

Detail of Works done: At the beginning of 2017, Tamoin carried out the sectioning of the solar fields of the Palma del Rio II solar thermal plant, during its annual shutdown.

The objective was to install new butterfly valves in the HTF collectors, of the solar field, that could be used to section the solar field and, should the need arise, to be able to isolate the different sectors.

Tamoin has orbital lathes that cut pipes from 8″ to 26″ without generating sparks, that were used at Palma del Río II to cut spools and in their place new sectioning valves were welded.

Tamoin have performed these sectioning works in other Acciona solar thermal plants such as Palma del Rio I and Majadas.
